Production and new registrations down

The economic and business situation remains challenging. The February figures for the German passenger car industry show a slight decline in domestic car production and new car registrations compared to the same month last year. Specifically, domestic car production reached a volume of 361,500 units in February. This was 3% less than in the same month last year, although it should be noted that the previous month had one fewer working day than in the same month last year. In terms of new car registrations, the number of registrations fell by 6% compared to February 2024 to a volume of 203,400 units. In the first two months of the year, a total of 411,000 new cars were registered, which was 5% less than in the first two months of the previous year. The figures are therefore still well below the pre-crisis level of 2019.

New registrations on the German electric car market developed positively - also due to low previous year's figures as a result of the abolition of the environmental bonus. In February, new registrations of electric vehicles (BEV, PHEV) rose by 32% to a volume of 55,490 units. Over the course of the year, the German e-market is up 36%, with 107,700 new e-cars registered in the first two months. Both domestic production and total new car registrations remain at pre-crisis levels. Compared to the pre-crisis year of 2019, production after two months of the current year was 14% below the previous year's level. New registrations are even a good 23% below the comparison figure.

All of this shows that there is still a lot to do and no time to lose.
